Oak and Brass Tea Rack

tea rack.jpg

Im a big tea drinker, I always have one on the go in the workshop. I wanted to make a nice rack with shelves for my favourite teas and a way to hang a couple of mugs.

I decided to make it out of some oak so fist I had to re-saw the boards on the table saw then run them through the thicknesser to clean them up.

To add a little interest to the shape of the rack I used the bandsaw to cut out some curves and then sanded them on the spindle sander.

To join it all together I used box joints and the router jig I had made a few weeks ago. This joint is very strong but I also really like how it looks.

So I could hang a couple of mugs from the rack I installed two of shaker style pegs that are also in oak. On the back I added some brass mirror plates so it could be attached to the wall.

I finished it with a few coats of tung oil then installed some brass rails to stop things filling of the shelves.

Thats it all finished now it time to stop for a brew.
