Tape Dispenser

Tape Dispenser

I use masking tape all the time in the workshop but every tine I need it I either cant find it or cant find the end. I thought it was about time I sorted this problem out. A tape dispenser is what i needed.

I had a lot of old pallet wood in the shop so this project would be very cheap

To start the first thing I did was to find my roll of tape then I drew around the center on to a piece of wood. I then took the wood to the bandsaw and cut out the circle.

With the circle cut out I sanded it and it was a nice tight fit into the roll of tape. I then put the roll on another piece of pallet wood and sketched out a pattern for the dispenser.

Using the bandsaw I cut out all the pieces. I cut a piece of dowel to the width I planned the dispenser to be. I drilled I hole in the center of the round bit of wood and fitted the dowel in.

Then using the masking tape as I often do I taped the two sides of the dispenser together. I marked out where the slot for the dowel should go then drilled and cut it out.

I gave all the parts a sand then glued and nailed them together.

As this was just made from some old pallets and had nail holes in it I wanted it to have a distressed look. To emphasize this I used a blow torch to slightly burn the wood which bring out the grain.

To give it a smooth long lasting finish I pubbed in then buffed off some Briwax.

It needed a blade to cut the tape so I got a pencil sharpener from Amazon and used the blade from it.

This is it all done. With any luck it will make we that little bit more officiant in the workshop.
